Flashback: Nokia evolved from 10 KG to 139 grams



The Redmond based Windows leader of tech industry Microsoft is buying Nokia. Discussed over breakfast this With this dealthe Bill Gates company currently headed by Steve Ballmer will purchase substantially all of Nokia's Devices & Services business, license Nokia's patents, and license and use Nokia's mapping services.

The Finnish company which ruled the market once is today struggling against cheaper Android devices in the market. Companies like Samsung, Micromax and Karbonn are giving Nokia a tough time. Yet it is the only company that has made good sales of devices running Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system.


Nokia Mobira Senator in 1982 was Nokia’s oldest phone launched in January 1982. It weight 9800 grams.


Nokia Actionman was launched in January 1984 weighed 4.7 KG.


Nokia Talkman 520 weighed 4700 grams with a phone book to store 184 names.


The 5.5 KG Nokia  Mobira Talkman was announced in may 1985.


Nokia M-11 launched in May 1989 was a  2.5 kg phone with in-built power supply
Nokia Cityman 100 ETACS with a visible antenna in January 1990.


With Nokia 116 from November 1992 the company reduced the weight considerably. It weighed only 355 grams.
The Nokia 104 with a visibly smaller antenna weight only 345 grams.


 The Nokia Forum in December 1992 was a phone with a cover. This made way for flip phones later.

The January 1994 phone Nokia 2040 was just 323 grams.


This Nokia 2080 was just 225 grams. It was launched in April 1995


Nokia 9000i Orange, the Pencil box shaped phone weighed 397 grams when launched in 1997 June


Nokia 6161 was 28 mm in thickness and 165 grams in weight


Nokia 8210e in 1999 had a high-contrast, full-graphics display


In 2000 Nokia launched 5185i  that was 147.4 g in weight. The same year Nokia launched the 8877 flip phone that could easily fit in pocket. It weighed only 75 grams.


In February 2007 Nokia was ready with camera phone 3110 Classic.


Again in 2007 Nokia came with an NFC enabled flipphone with superior design.
This was the year when Nokia launched amazing feature phones with camera, with audio support via accessories, better display to take on the market and become a leader
